Services and Locations

Mission

International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) supports the greater internationalization of the University of Connecticut through the development and delivery of services and programs that help international students and exchange visitors accomplish their academic and professional goals at UConn.

To further this mission, we:

  • Ensure UConn’s compliance with U.S. immigration regulations governing visa sponsorship for international students and exchange visitors.
  • Provide immigration assistance and intercultural support to international students and exchange visitors through advising, programs, workshops and events.
  • Serve as a resource for academic and administrative units in the collaboration, hiring and sponsorship of international students and exchange visitors.
  • Provide on-going orientation and support services in a welcoming environment designed to foster cultural adjustment to the U.S.
  • Build links within the UConn community via cultural activities and programs.

We provide direct services at four different UConn locations.

ISSS Hartford

ISSS at UConn Hartford serves the advising needs of international students and scholars on F and J visas at the UConn Hartford campus, School of Social Work and Graduate Business Learning Center. As International Advisor, Neena Kapoor advises students and scholars on immigration and cultural transition matters, processes immigration applications and serves a resource for UConn faculty and staff throughout the Hartford area.

Neena’s office is located in the Graduate Business Learning Center at 100 Constitution Plaza, Room 415 A/B.

Drop-In Advising (Quick Questions) & Application Submission Hours (During Normal Operations Only):

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1:00-3:30 p.m.  *UConn ID Required to Access the Elevator*
Walk in advising hours are for routine questions regarding employment, travel, extensions, CPT/OPT, withdrawing from a course, applying for a Driver’s License or Social Security Number, or other routine matters. ISSS cannot process your application or request during walk-in advising hours. You can also pick up or drop off application materials during this time.

ISSS Stamford

ISSS at UConn Stamford serves the advising needs of international students and scholars on F and J visas at the Stamford and Waterbury campuses. As International Advisor, Dr. Lulu Dong advises students and scholars on immigration and cultural transition matters, processes immigration applications and serves a resource to UConn Stamford and UConn Waterbury faculty and staff.

Lulu’s office is located in the Director’s Suite, Room 301F.

Drop In Advising:

Students may drop by Lulu's office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 am - 4 pm.
Drop In Advising is Monday and Thursday 12:00-1:30 pm.

Drop in advising hours are for routine questions regarding employment, travel, extensions, CPT/OPT, withdrawing from a course, applying for a Driver’s License or Social Security Number, or other routine matters. ISSS cannot process your application or request during walk-in advising hours. If you are submitting an application for processing and you have questions about the application, please come during walk-in advising hours. Otherwise completed applications can be dropped off/picked up outside of walk-in advising hours.

ISSS Law School

Leslie will be on leave starting 10/27/22. Law School students contact Neena Kapoor with questions or for an appointment while Leslie is away.  ISSS at UConn School of Law serves the advising needs of international students and scholars on F and J visas at the UConn School of Law. As International Advisor, Leslie Lawrence advises students and scholars on immigration and cultural transition matters, processes immigration applications and serves a resource for UConn faculty and staff at the Law School.

Leslie’s office is located in the Law Library, OneStop 203. Leslie is based two days a week at the Law School and three days a week at ISSS Storrs.

Leslie is available to meet with students on an entirely drop-in basis.  If you will need time to discuss a more complex issue, please email Leslie in advance at leslie.lawrence@uconn.edu to ensure she will be available. ISSS cannot process your application or request during drop-in advising hours.

Join the ISSS Listserv

Join the ISSS Listserv to receive news and updates about ISSS events and programs, and information important for international students. Email international@uconn.edu to be added to the listserv, and please specify your home campus.  International students and visiting scholars are automatically added to the listserv.
