Intercultural Programs and Support Mission Statement

  • To provide support to international students and scholars, including the faculty and staff that work with them, by offering programming which:
    • Fosters a sense of community and belonging to the university
    • Addresses social and academic barriers by breaking down language and cultural barriers, increasing help-seeking mindsets, and assisting with transitions to a new culture and academic environment
    • Encourages the development of critical intercultural competence and inclusion of students, faculty, and staff by engaging in conversations and promoting analytical and reflective behaviors to deepen understanding of cultures

Intercultural Programs and Support (IPS) is housed at the Center for International Students and Scholars (CISS). University of Connecticut American English Language Institute (UCAELI) and International Teaching Assistant Services form part of IPS.
