Sylvia Pu

My name is Sylvia Pu, and I am originally from China.  Currently, I am working on my Ph.D. in Sociology.  My dissertation research explores the relationship between family, education, and professional success by studying the life stories of a cohort of Chinese college graduates and how they accumulate skills within schools to achieve professional success.  My research has given me applicable insights into the schooling experiences of Chinese students, both those within China and studying overseas in countries such as the U.S.  I want to share my findings with the UConn university community at large to make a real-life impact.  My roles at UConn, besides a Ph.D. candidate and a member of the International Student Advisory Board, include Programming Graduate Assistant at the Center for Career Development and a member of the Graduate Student Career Council.  When I do have some free time, I love to make arts and furniture.
